Big news folks. I just experienced my first meditation high. What a moment!

I’ve meditated for several months now. I guess that’s a sign of getting old, trying to better myself mentally and whatnot.

Anyway, meditating has been challenging for someone whose brain is always jumping from one thought to the next. I suppose this is exactly why I started meditating in the first place. Instead of waking up with my brain like this:

“Time to brush my teeth. Gosh I’m tired. Tired, hired, fired. We didn’t start the fire! Ryan started the fire! Gosh that was a funny episode of The Office. Do the Sens play tonight? Oh hey Chester, how was your night? Fine, ignore me. Coffee time! All mine, it’s been fine, eating a lime. Eating, eating, what should I pack for lunch? Oh wait, I pre-packed it. That’s always nice. Yesterday-me was so nice to today-me. Thank you yesterday-me. I owe you a fee. Not yet, though, I’m a busy bee. What am I teaching today? Oh no, it’s raining. Please no indoor recess!”

I now wake up to a soft voice telling me to stay present. Sure, I’m not always successful, but I’ve been progressing. Maybe a few random thoughts pop into my head here and there, but I do my best to refocus on the calm voice. A few days ago, it happened.

Experiencing the High

This lady was telling me to remember that life was good. She was talking about happiness, telling me to control my breathing, and then I felt it. It was like nothing else mattered. It felt like my mind was floating. Did it last long? Not at all. I quickly started to think about what I had just felt instead of staying in that moment. But still, what a high! I found myself smiling for no reason. How awesome is that?

I then actually looked up if it was possible to get a meditation high. How sad is that, feeling the need to ask Google if I had felt what I knew I had felt. That’s the world we live in I suppose. Technology has us right where it wants us. I even meditate through an app!

Anyway, this doesn’t need to become a rant on the negatives with technology. The point is this: Meditating = good.
