I’m taking on a heavy hitter today! I’ve put a lot of time into ensuring that this review is flawless. The type of review that can’t be reviewed, if you know what I mean. Today’s review (and ranking) is the days of the week!

7th: Tuesday

As Newman once said on Seinfeld, “Tuesdays have no feel.” They are useless. Almost nothing special happens on a Tuesday. If you’re like me, it’s also when work seems to drag on the longest. I often find myself thinking, “I just need to make it to Wednesday.” Why? Because that’s closer to Thursday, which is closer to Friday, which is closer to Saturday, all of which are better than Tuesday.

Here’s the one plus about Tuesday: It is a bit of a food special day. Some people use Tuesdays to eat tacos. I know Pizza Hut and KFC used to have Tuesday specials. For me, Toppers pizza is often ordered on a Tuesday because it’s a bit cheaper. That’s just the food people being smart, though. They know that no one would ever order food on a Tuesday otherwise, because nothing ever happens on a Tuesday.

It’s one of the only days that even the NFL hasn’t bothered with. I think the only Tuesday that is special is Shrove Tuesday. That’s the lead into lent. If that’s the best Tuesday has to offer, it’s truly a pathetic day. The worst day, in fact.

6th: Monday

Make no mistake about it, Mondays suck. There’s another day coming up on this list (no spoilers)  that is worsened because of the thought that Monday is coming. It’s the start of the five day grind. Monday mornings are particularly rough. You are in hour 1 of a 40 hour work week. You are tired, you are annoyed. If the weather matched the feeling Mondays would always be rainy.

Here’s what allows it to trump Tuesdays. There are plenty of special Mondays. Let me run through them:

  • Family Day
  • Victoria Day
  • Easter Monday
  • Civic Holiday
  • Labour Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Boxing Day

That is 7 Mondays free from work! Even if the other 45 Mondays are a 2 out of 10, these 7 holidays help balance out that score a little bit. 7 long weekends, 7 times where your work week is shortened, it’s a huge boost really. Oh, there’s also Monday Night Football if you’re into that type of thing.

5th: Wednesday

It’s hard to even write about Wednesday. It’s almost better known for being a character at this point:

WEDNESDAY ADAMS

With the Holiday Mondays, I easily felt that Mondays were better than Tuesdays. I thought about having it over Wednesday, too. I decided to trust the math:

Mondays: 2 points for 45 of the Mondays, 9 points for each of the 7 Holiday Mondays

Total Score: 153

Wednesday: 5 points for all 52 Wednesdays

Total Score: 260

Well there ya go, not even close. For 45 weeks of the year, you’re taking Wednesday over Monday. Wednesday is like drafting an offensive guard in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Boring, not much to talk about, but by no means bad.

4th: Thursday

Thursday is that kid who enters a race and comes back to tell you that he finished just off the podium. While technically correct, the truth is, the top 3 absolutely smashed him. But 4th is 4th!

The best part about Thursdays is that you’re as close as you can be to the top tier days. You start to smile more, maybe even become more ambitious at work. You know what, maybe I will take that extra course! And I’m going to start running!

It’s the equivalent of March from a month perspective, when the snow finally starts to melt.

The day itself isn’t all that special. But being in a good mood counts for something. Although, there is also the Thursday fatigue at times. If the start of the week has been tough, Thursdays can sometimes feel like walking through mud. Nonetheless, I think just about everyone can agree that Thursday deserves the 4th spot.

3rd: Friday

This is where my list likely made a few people gasp. I bet that some of you had this guy in your number 1 spot, and most had him in their top 2. Allow me to explain.

Friday is still, for the majority of us, a day of work. It’s 8 hours of work, plus travel time. It’s waking up early. It’s being annoyed by coworkers. Sure, not as annoyed as on a Tuesday, but annoyed nonetheless. If you work even 40 Fridays of the year, that’s over 300 hours of your year. Most of us don’t work the other two days at all.

That’s all the negatives I have about Friday. That’s what makes this ranking tough. I’m coming across as a Friday hater. It’s like when the Ducks took Leo Carlsson over Adam Fantilli in the 2023 NHL Draft. All people wanted to talk about was why the Ducks hated Fantilli. They could’ve very well loved him, they just loved Carlsson a little more. That’s the case with me. I love Fridays. They’re the best day of the work week. Friday nights are special. No doubt about it.

This might be a sign of my age, though. Maybe young 20’s-me would have Friday higher. I’m not hitting up any clubs on a Friday night anymore. In fact, I am sometimes extremely tired on a Friday night. Which is fine, because I am aware that the two best days of the week are still to come.

2nd: Sunday

Sunday gets negative reviews for what’s to come. Yes, I’m talking about the Sunday scaries. Sometime in the later afternoon, people become anxious about the coming of Monday. Don’t get me wrong, that is indeed a negative about Sunday. But what about Saturday night? It’s the best time of the week. Do you know part of why that is? Because of the comfort that tomorrow is Sunday, another day off. Basically, if we’re punishing Sunday for the coming of Monday, shouldn’t we also praise Sunday for how relaxed we are on Saturday?

If you’re like me, Sunday is a day off. If you’re like me, it’s even better through the fall and winter when it becomes football day. I also think that a Sunday brunch is quite nice.

As great as Fridays are, you have to work on just about all of them. Sundays, you don’t. And for that reason, Sunday edges out Friday as the second best day of the week.

1st: Saturday

Do I even need to write anything here? Saturday is the Usain Bolt of days. I’m talking Usain Bolt 2009, too, where he wasn’t just winning, he was the best in the world by far. The best of all-time, in fact!

Why do we like Fridays? Because it gets us to Saturday. You’re (probably) off work, you’re free for the next two days. There’s no Saturday scaries, because Sunday, the 2nd best day of the week, is what’s coming. If you’re a kid, you get a break from school. If you’re a young adult it’s your time to party. As you get older it’s your time to relax. It’s whatever you want it to be!

Are you into college football? This is the day for you. What about hockey? Come on down! Looking to go out to eat? This day makes perfect sense. The list goes on and on.

So, there you have it, folks. The official review (and ranking) of the days of the week.
