The Creation of Pongo Hats!

Welcome to Pongo Hats! I thought I’d share my origin story.

I’ve been a hat enthusiast my whole life. Here’s my first ever hat, in fact:

Every mall I’ve entered includes me looking for Lids. There’s never a hat ad on social media that I don’t slow down for. While this isn’t all of them, here’s a good chunk of my hat collection:

So, what do you get when you mix a hat obsession with a love of creativity? A brand new hat company!

This has been a long journey that started with the name. I wanted something catchy with a deeper meaning. That’s when I came up with NIKE. That is the Greek Goddess of Victory. It turns out someone already uses that name.

Pongo, meanwhile, is the fancy name for an orangutan. Orangutans are about as intelligent an animal as there is in the world. Yes, I’m talking about this guy:

Pongo Logos

First of all, that just works as a logo. So does this, though:

Well, why not use them both?

Humans share 97% of their DNA with orangutans. Perhaps the big difference is that orangutans are more primal. Which leads to the slogan: Embrace Your Primal Side.

Name, check. Logos, check. Slogan, check. Now, it was time to create the hat. It took a lot of work, with plenty more to come, but I couldn’t be happier with the official Pongo hats.
